Bored with your ride? We’ve all been there. Before you go off eyeing up a new truck, have you thought about ways to customize your truck first?

Customizing your truck can breathe new life into an old ride. It’s a damn sight cheaper than going out and buying a new one. We’ve got five simple ideas to mod your truck.

1. Tires and Rims

One of the easiest ways to customize your truck is some new rims and tires. It can make any ride look new again.

A word of warning though, don’t go too big if you use your truck for off-roading. Typically, 17-inch wheels are the best for off-roading. It’s also worth bearing in mind that if you’re looking to go over the 20-inch wheel mark then you’ll be looking at some seriously expensive rims.

To get the best fuel economy and mileage, stick with OEM tire sizes. So sticking with the original tire size is always a good idea if that’s a concern for you. You can get new tires with a more aggressive or unique tread pattern to freshen up your look.

2. Door Handles

There are loads of aftermarket door handles available for every make and model of truck out there. Whether you want a color pop or yours are simply scuffed, new door handles are great customization.

Especially if you have chrome door handles, you’ll know grime and fingerprints show up no matter how often you clean your truck, so these especially are worth replacing.

On the topic of chrome, if you’re a Toyota Tundra owner, your ride will be covered in chrome. For a more modern look, it might be worth removing chrome from your Tundra altogether.

3. Lift Kits

Add some height to your truck without the price tag by using a lift kit. Also known as a leveling kit, these can add anywhere from an inch to three inches in height.

Lift kits are anywhere between $50 to $500. They have the added bonus of meaning you can add larger tires without risking tire rubbing problems down the line.

If your car is under warranty, we’d recommend getting your lift kit fitted by a dealer to keep the warranty intact.

4. Light Bars

Light bars can add some pizzazz to your truck. You can add them above the cab, behind the grille, or on the back bumper.

Make sure to get a high-quality light bar to avoid wasting your time and money. Cheaper light bars tend to fail faster and can cause electrical issues. Unless you’re a dab hand with electrics, it’s best to have a qualified technician fit a light bar.

5. Front Grille

Last but by no means least, the grille. Probably the most impactful part of any truck, if you’re not happy with your grille, there are loads of aftermarket options to replace it with.

Manufacturer’s themselves often offer OEM aftermarket grilles from different trims within your model line. But don’t worry if not, there’s plenty of non-OEM grilles available, though changing to these would obviously void your warranty should you have one.

You’ll be looking at anywhere from $100 to $1,500, excluding fitting costs. Grilles are fairly easy to change yourself, but again if you’re not mechanically minded it’s best to get a local technician to do the job.
